Abortion

On this very personal issue, we support a woman’s right to choose. We support a ban on partial birth abortions unless a doctor determines that there is too great a risk to the health of the woman. We support a parental notification requirement for young women aged 16 and under.

Stem Cell Research

Science has produced wondrous advances in our lifetime, and we need to continue that work. Countless diseases may be cured if the government would increase its commitment to scientific research and development. We support the use of stem cells to further scientific progress.

If a bill is passed by the legislature allowing gay marriage, it will be signed. Gay couples should have the same rights as heterosexual couples.

Gun Control

Second Amendment rights must be upheld, because American citizens have the right to bear arms. However, there is a limit when firearms endanger public safety. We support New Jersey’s aggressive gun control laws.  The sport of hunting has a long tradition in our state; we support the rights of hunters in New Jersey.

More and more crimes today occur through the internet. Identity theft, computer hacking, and stolen credit card numbers are 21st century problems that need 21st century solutions. So called “white collar crimes” must be deterred. White collar crimes are just as devastating as other forms of crime, and must be treated more seriously. Harsher sentencing guidelines for white collar criminals must be passed to represent the severity of the crime.

We must look to establish better community policing. We have seen local communities effectively reduce crime by strong community-based crime prevention efforts and we need to make those programs more prevalent and robust.

We too often overlook one of the biggest breeding ground for gangs: prison. Often using smuggled cell phones, gang leaders can continue to operate their organizations from inside prisons. In order to stop gang related violence outside of prison, we must redouble our efforts to stop gang related activity in prison.
