Sign The Declaration
| July 2nd, 2009 | Category: Think Independent |New Jersey Voter Declaration of Independence
When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with the two major political parties and assume the power and responsibility to make up their own minds on who should lead, it is important that they declare the reasons for such a decision.
The recent history of the two parties in New Jersey is a sad litany of politicians putting their political interests ahead of the public welfare, of putting special interests ahead of the public good.
The Democratic and Republican parties have refused to work together to reach consensus on how to solve the most pressing problems facing New Jersey. They would rather make political points than point the state in the right direction.
They lurch from election to election, with their principal goal being to keep power or gain legislative seats, rather than to govern by making hard choices on important issues.
They have brought New Jersey to the verge of bankruptcy by building up 130 billion in outstanding pension and health care liabilities and debt with no plan to pay for it. They built up most of this debt without the consent of the governed, despite a clear constitutional requirement to do so.
They have driven people away from New Jersey by imposing onerous state taxes on top of ruinous property taxes.
They have failed to tackle the underlying cost drivers of ever-rising employee salary, pension and health care costs that push up property taxes because they fear taking on the interest groups who benefit from that system.
They divide when they should unite. They pit the interests of seniors against families, cities against suburbs, environmentalists against business.
They build up political patronage machines that waste taxpayer dollars, put the interests of the education establishment ahead of schoolchildren, and invoke the mantra of home rule to protect their salaries and fiefdoms.
They fail to improve the quality of government services, and accept layers of regulation that discourage businesses from creating jobs.
They have abdicated responsibility for making the tough decisions necessary for the future prosperity, competitiveness, and affordability of our state.
We therefore declare ourselves to be free and independent voters, and forsake blind allegiance to the political parties that have put their interests ahead of our own

THERE NEEDS TO BE A REVOLUTION IN NJ AND THE STATE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO BE OVERTHROWN BY THE PEOPLE….THIS IS NO LONGER A JOKE , IT MUST HAPPEN
I hope you are sincere in your Campaign. I am so Tired of being Lied to by Politicians. Please help US, the Residents of NJ.
It is way past time for real change. The people need to take the State back. The entire NJ Supreme Court needs to be impeached, the bureaucracy done away with, the size of government pared, and County Government abolished, altogether!!!!
I am elated to see that Chris is getting the exposure, and we can do our part. I’ve started a movement that I hope can have national reach in garnering support for Independent thinkers like Chris and those that have signed this petition.
We must spread the word and pledge our support to the change in NJ that we so desperately need. The mass exodus out of the State has already started, perhaps we can prevent it from reaching critical levels and fix the mess in the Statehouse and the NJ Court house.
Lets do away with parties altogether. I am watching the house ways and means committee hearing on health care reform and its a shame.
The Democrats denying republican amendments hat are clearly in the best interest of their constituents solely based on the bias of partisanship.
This health care bill is scary.
Daggett and Esposito - good men and true. Time for a constitutional revision and a unicameral full-time legislature of public servants who have no other vested interest other than serving the people of N.J. Only an independent governor and lt. governor can shatter the partisan grid-lock on NJ politics. Only Daggett and Esposito have the integrity and intelligence to know how to do this. Vote Daggett and Esposito in November!!
Good Luck to Daggett and Esposito! Truly the time is here for independent politicians starting with the Governor and Lt. Governor! Please vote independent in November!
Our state has the reputation of being a cesspool for both our environment and our politics. Our open space is being gobbled up and polluted. Our politicians are being indicted and jailed. It’s time for some new blood, new ideas and new ways of doing things. It’s time for the people of New Jersey to ask “Who is this guy Chris Daggett?” and why it’s important to know what he’s trying to do!
I love living by the shore and near my family and friends. Let’s not force the citizens of New Jersey out - let us force the politicians out that are not making this great state affordable to live in nor viable for small business to do business in NJ. We need a new voice…..let’s be independent for a change! Chris Daggett we are behind you all of the way.!
MORE OF THE SAME IN THE GARDEN STATE.
Today’s (08/18/09) Headline.
REPORTS: CHRISTIE MADE LOAN TO TOP AIDE, FAILED TO REPORT IT
NEW JERSEY — As U.S. Attorney in 2007, Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie did not report a $46,000 loan he gave to an aide, according to published reports and the Christie campaign. Christie did not disclose the amount on his income tax return or elsewhere as required under federal and state ethics rules, said reports in The New York Times and the Star-Ledger. Both papers said the information was first broadcast on NJN Monday.
You should know that I’m a registered Republican. It’s no longer voting across party lines for me. It’s voting for what’s right, and what NJ needs. We can start with some ethics…
We need someone in the State House who will run it like we must run our homes, if we don’t have the money coming in, we can’t spend it, plain and simple. Stop the Spending!! Stop the hiring of political cronies to unecessary commissions.
Thank Goodness for someone who sees beyond the tenure for teachers. Some teachers with tenure tend to relax a bit too much. Bring the accountability back to the classroom. I am a former teacher and believe that tenure can do more harm than good!
Chris… if things dont work out in NJ… how about bringing that common sense down to Georgia?
I AM POSITIVE THE WHOLE COUNTRY IS BROKEN WITH A TWO PARTY SYSTEM MADE UP OF MILLIONAIRES AND CORRUPT POLITICIANS. THINK ABOUT IT. WHEN ONE PARTY(SIDE) WINS….SOMEONE LOOSES. ITS TIME TO END THE USELESS TUG OF WAR WITH OUR LIVES. I URGE EVERYONE TO VOTE FOR “THAT CHANGE” WE ALL HEARD ABOUT, AND END THIS 160 YEARS OF POLITICS GONE WRONG. AMERICA DESERVES BETTER. WE DON’T HAVE MUCH LEFT TO LOOSE. I SALUTE THE INDEPENDENTS WHO HAVE VISION. RIGHT HERE IN THIS STATE IS WHERE THE TORCH SHOULD BE LIT!! LETS ELECT AN INDEPENDENT GOVERNOR. AND THEN INDEPENDENT HOUSE AND SENATE REPRESENTATIVES. NEW JERSEY SHOULD BE THE FIRST STATE TO FIX THE TWO PARTY MESS!!…
WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE A MILLIONAIRE TO BE THE LEADER OF THIS LAND???…..
WHY DOES THE LAW NOT EXIST FOR THE STATE PROSECUTOR???……..
WHY IS THIS COUNTRY GOING TO THE TRASH???…………
BECAUSE THE PEOPLE “YOU” ELECTED WANT IT THIS WAY!!!!!!!……..GET IT YET??
TIME FOR A CHANGE FOLKS……VOTE FOR AN INDEPENDENT “VOICE FOR THE PEOPLE”.
THANKS MR. CHRIS DAGGETT FOR GIVING US SOME HOPE.
DAVE PARSONS
NJ is broken!!! Chris you are the one to fix it!! You have my 100% support!!! LETS WIN THIS!!!
We must break the idea that a wasted vote is for a third party! A WASTED VOTE IS FOR A DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN! If those that do not vote, just voted third party. A win for NJ!
The New Jersey Tea Party groups began beating the drum early in 2009 and culminated in our 9-12 MARCH on DC . I’m proud to have joined this group and to have participated in this peaceful demonstration. While some members may lean towards one political party or another, we are all united in our quest to return all levels of government back to the people. Abraham Lincoln gave us a mandate when he said that “GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE SHALL NOT PERISH FROM THIS EARTH”. (P.S.-do our schools still require students to memorize his Gettysburg Address as we did 2 generarions ago?). This gubernatorial election will be decided by the independent voters of NJ. We have one month left to go out there and be proactive for our supprt of Chris Daggett. Maybe we all don’t agree with all facets of his plan, but thank God, he is a breath of fresh air in this rotting smelly quagmire of two party politics. I will do all I can to support and campaign for him during the coming weeks. Last poll I said showed him with 8% of the vote, and the latest says 15%. If we all get out there and put our noses to the grindstone, we can get the minimum 34% he needs. How’s this for a bumper sticker idea ?: ” CHRIS DAGGETT - ‘ SCORE 34 OR MORE’ “.
We all need to GET OU THERE FOR DAGGETT!!!!!
You request a modicum of decorum in these comments:
- “The Daggett Campaign respectfully disagrees with our opponents, we hope you do also.” -
Unfortunately, the incumbent and the parties (Dem,Rep) who spawned him are anything but respectful of 99.9% (dissecting by net worth) of the constituency in this state. This is not a time for decorum. NJ voters are supposed to face and adapt to the economic shock therapy Corzine worked to institute in his days heading up Goldman Sachs. As for the Bush acolyte on the Republican ticket, I can’t muster anything nearly as polite. It’s definitely pitchfork time.
Let them face our rage. I do not respect them. I will grant your request for polite commentary here but will not limit my speech in the commons. I will not breach the peace but do promise to call a spade a spade. This two party machine depends on decorum to perpetuate the illusion. They want us to hit the snooze button. I think we need an alarm clock with fewer functions.
I have been the recipient of some negative comments for my endorsement of Daggett for Governor.
These are people who know about my consistent Federalist ideas of limited government and absolute free markets. This is a great ideology and one that I will support wherever there is an opportunity. But these ideas will never make it to the mainstream if we merely sit back and complain.
The first problem that needs to be cracked is the left/right paradigm that paralyzes the State House into a destructive mode. Ideology will not buy anything for New Jersey in this next election. Common sense will.
If I were elected to the Assembly this year, I think that I would have a better chance of selling limited government to Chris Daggett than to any of the other top contenders.
